Welcome to the El Toro Airport Environmental Impact Report (EIR) Reading Room. There are over 3,500 pages of the EIR on-line at this time. These are the core pages of the report that document the impact the airport will have on the quality of life here in Orange County.
The county printed only a few dozen copies of the document and made them available to libraries throughout the county. They did not provide a web-based version, stating that it would have been an impossible task. Nor would they provide us electronic versions of the study. Volunteers at Viridian Technologies manually scanned the key volumes to make it easier for you to read and form your own opinions regarding this multi-billion dollar project.
Use the Acrobat pages, the HTML pages, the computer generated indices, and the research tools below to scan through Orange County's Environment Impact report. Submit questions about items you find missing from the report, presumptuous, unrealistic, wrong, or things that just plain don't add up.
The links to the left will open some of the key volumes of the EIR in very large (1-25 meg), Adobe Acrobat files. If you don't have the Acrobat reader installed, see the Help link on your left.
The links at the bottom of the page can be used to research the El Toro Airport Information Website for previous County statements regarding the airport, technical papers, and newspaper articles going back to 1996. There is also a link to the Website's Message Board for discussing issues raised by the EIR; a link to a How-To page on submitting EIR questions to the County; and an e-mail link so you can send your questions via e-mail. .
The County deadline for reading and questioning this 10,000 page EIR document is fast approaching - - February 22nd, 2000.
